Mi-parti

Mi-parti is the most playful cut of the Middle Ages: the divided, two-coloured hose. We make ours from a blend of 95% cotton and 5% elastane using the sprang technique — which is why they are comfortable for people today and do not itch.
We do not make them in wool (except for museums): a bias cut does not give enough comfort, and under heavy use the fabric tears, which we could not guarantee against. Available in single colour, alternating, three-coloured, scalloped pattern and full leg versions. Points (laces with aiglets) are a separate item.

Mi-Parti Hose: The Parti-Coloured Hose of the Middle Ages

Mi-parti hose are divided into two or more colours, a style often seen in 14th- and 15th-century depictions. We make ours from a blend of 95% cotton and 5% elastane, using a modern take on the sprang technique. The result is fully fitted, does not itch, is comfortable, and looks just like the depictions.

Why Not Wool?

We only make wool hose for museums. A bias cut in wool does not give the comfort reenactors need, and under heavy use the fabric tears, which we could not guarantee. Thick wool makes them uncomfortable or too baggy, and thin plain-weave wool is not durable enough. The cotton version is also more affordable, because it does not have to be cut on the bias, so less fabric is wasted.

Versions

The hose are available in single colour, alternating colours, three colours, scalloped pattern and full leg versions, in a wide range of colour combinations. Points with brass aiglets are sold separately and are used to tie the hose to the farsetto.
