Medieval clothing is close-fitting, so an accurate size matters far more than it does for a modern T-shirt. This guide helps you choose the right size, or send us accurate measurements for a made-to-measure piece.
Size Chart or Made to Measure?
Every product page has a size chart. If your measurements fall within one size, you can choose that standard size. If you fall between two sizes, or would like a looser fit, simply choose one size larger, although this is only a recommendation. For sizes below S and above 4XL, please use the custom order form, where every field is required. You will also find measuring videos next to the form.
Before You Measure
- Ask someone to help. You cannot measure your back, shoulders and arm length accurately on your own.
- Use a soft tape measure, in centimetres.
- Measure over thin clothing, or over the shirt you plan to wear under the garment.
- Stand straight and relaxed, breathing normally. Do not pull in your stomach or push out your chest.
The Most Common Mistakes
- Adding ease. Please do not add extra centimetres: ease is already built into our patterns. If you add it as well, the garment ends up twice as loose.
- Tape too tight or too loose. The tape should lie flat against the body without cutting in.
- Measuring only once. Take every measurement twice. If the two values differ, measure a third time.
- Old measurements. If your weight has changed, measure again. Our fully laced dress, for example, can take a 5 to 8 cm increase at the waist, but after weight loss the gap at the front becomes too small, and that cannot be corrected.
What Happens After You Order?
Your order becomes final once the 10% deposit is paid. You can cancel within 3 days of ordering without giving a reason, and the deposit is refunded in full. Each piece is made individually to the measurements you provide, so we cannot take responsibility for differences caused by inaccurate information. If you are unsure, please write to us before you measure.
